SENATOBIA – Curissa Beatty's unassisted goal from 30 yards out 4:57 into the first half was the only scoring of the afternoon as the visiting MGCCC Bulldogs handed Northwest its first loss of the season, 1-0, on Friday.
"Today was obviously not the result we hoped for," head coach
Levi Nunnally said. "We conceded an early goal and just didn't play with the sense of urgency we needed to. We did not have the same effort as we did in Tuesday's win over Meridian, but we'll put today's game behind us and hope to bring better energy at Southwest."
MGCCC evened its season record at 1-1, while the Lady Rangers moved to 1-1.
The Bulldogs controlled the possession all afternoon and were the more dominant team, out-shooting the Lady Rangers 21-3 (12-1 on goal).
Freshman goalkeeper
Liv Nault did all she could to keep it a one goal match, finishing with a season and career-high 11 saves, including two big ones in the second half.
Northwest's best chance for an equalizer came in the game's closing minutes, with freshman
Landyn Hoover's attempt sailing just high from inside the box.
Northwest will look to get back in the win column tomorrow, traveling to Southwest Mississippi for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
