SENATOBIA – Northwest sophomore forward
Dante Sterling has signed a basketball scholarship to attend Alcorn State University.
The Fayetteville, Ga., native was named to JucoRecruiting.com's List of Top 100 prospects in the country back in March and feted by numerous Division I schools before inking with Alcorn.
"Dante is a big pickup for Alcorn State," Ranger assistant coach
Shane Oakley said. "He's a great shooter around the perimeter and has great length. He should provide an instant impact to their offensive production."
The 6-foot-6 transfer from Northwest Florida State started in 16 games this season for Northwest, averaging a team-best 14.5 points and five rebounds per game. He chipped in 49 assists, 29 steals and six blocks while leading the team with 54 made three-pointers.
Sterling was named Second Team All-MACJC and was an MACJC All-Star, scoring in double figures in 15 games, including a career-high 34 points against Arkansas Baptist.
Sterling is the fourth Ranger to sign on with a four-year program this offseason, joining
Keelin Jackson (Arkansas-Monticello),
Jaylan Shelton (Warner University) and
Shelby McEwen (Alabama t&f).
