SENATOBIA – Northwest split in Friday's MACJC tennis doubleheader, defeating Holmes 9-0 and falling 7-2 to No. 23 Jones County.
Northwest moved to 2-5 on the season with the split.
Doubles play provided little trouble for the Lady Rangers, as Northwest swept action on all three courts.
With Holmes down two players for singles, the Rangers led 5-0 before singles play began. Northwest took care of business on the remaining four courts as
Piper Johnson,
Harlie Ray,
Emily Blackmarr and
Kim Crider shut down the Lady Bulldogs for the shutout win.
Despite a hard-fought 9-7 win from Johnson and Crider at the No. 2 position, Jones County took the other two matches in doubles play and carried the momentum into singles, taking five out of six for the 7-2 win.
Crider provided the lone win for the Lady Rangers at No. 4, defeating Brooke Cran 6-1, 6-1.
Northwest will travel to Hinds on Tuesday, April 11 in Clinton. The match is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
