SENATOBIA – Northwest went 1-1 on the day in tennis action, outlasting Holmes 5-4 and falling 9-0 to No. 15 Jones County on Friday.
Northwest dropped to 2-5 on the season with the conference split.
Northwest led 2-1 after doubles play against Holmes, as the Rangers notched wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
Although Holmes took victories on courts 4-6 in singles play, the Rangers swept 1-3 to edge the Bulldogs by a 5-4 margin.
Zak Harbin highlighted the efforts in singles play, taking a gritty 6-3, 7-6 (3) victory at the No. 2 slot.
Joshua Stephenson and
Dalton Young rounded out the wins for Northwest in singles competition.
Jones County swept doubles competition and carried the momentum into singles, sweeping the Rangers 1-6.
Young and
Adam Holley made the Bobcats work for wins, however, as Young battled Chase Pennington to three sets, ultimately falling 7-5, 4-6, 10-8. Holley also put up a strong effort against Jacob Bozeman at the No. 4 position, but fell 7-6 (1), 4-6, 10-7.
Northwest will travel to Hinds on Tuesday, April 11 in Clinton. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
