Game 1 – MDCC 6, Northwest 5
Northwest jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, taking advantage of three hit-by-pitches and two walks with big RBI-hits by
Grant McMinn and
Aaron Campbell, but were shut down the final seven frames as MDCC rallied for a 6-5 win.
Northwest let MDCC starter Hunter Allen (5-2) off the hook, as he pitched into the seventh inning and allowed Wesley Ross to pick up his first save.
Harrison Sandridge did not allow a hit until one out in the fourth, with Wendell Rieves' RBI-double cutting the Ranger lead to 4-1 after four.
MDCC rallied to tie the game in the fifth at 5-5, using two, two-run home runs from Jake Hartman and Rieves to right-center.
Northwest was held to just two hits the final seven innings and MDCC took its first lead, 6-5, in the seventh on Payton Lane's two-out RBI-single to center.
Sandridge got the no-decision in five innings of work, scattering seven hits, five runs, three strikeouts and two walks.
Nathan Harrison (3-4) allowed the go-ahead run in the seventh to take the loss.
MDCC out-hit Northwest 10-5 in the win, with Lane's 3-for-4 effort leading the Trojans. Three others had multiple hits.
Game 2 – Northwest 4, MDCC 1
Kyle Moore pitched the best game of his Ranger career in his fifth career start, scattering seven hits, one unearned run, two strikeouts and one walk in a complete-game performance to lift Northwest to a game two victory.
Spencer Cayten's RBI-triple to right-center in the first scored
David Herrington and Northwest led 1-0 after one.
Justin Milam added an RBI-single to center to make it 2-0 Rangers after two.
Lane's sac fly in the third pulled the Trojans within 2-1 but that's as close as they would get the rest of the way.
An error and
Hunter White fielder's choice plated two insurance runs in the sixth to make the final 4-1.
Northwest will travel to Hinds on Friday, April 21 (moved up from Saturday) for a 2 p.m. doubleheader in Raymond.
