SENATOBIA – Aside from a loss in doubles play, Thursday belonged to the Northwest women's tennis team as the Lady Rangers defeated Northeast 8-1.
Northwest had no trouble taking the first pair of doubles matches, as the duo of
Piper Johnson and
Kim Crider picked up a strong 8-0 victory at No. 2.
Harlie Ray and
Emily Blackmarr followed by taking an 8-2 victory at the No. 1 postition.
A thrilling tiebreaker at No. 3 went to Northeast, however, denying the Lady Rangers the doubles sweep.
Northwest responded with a sweep of singles competition, with
Kim Crider and
Emily Newman leaving little doubt at No. 4 and No. 6.
Piper Johnson and
Emily Standard also captured wins at No. 1 and No. 5, each earning their fourth individual wins of the season.
Northeast gave the Lady Rangers fits in the two remaining matches, but Ray and Blackmarr both prevailed in a pair of third-set tiebreakers at No. 2 and No. 3.
Now at 3-5 on the season, Northwest will prepare for postseason competition in next week's MACJC/Region 23 Tournament at Mississippi Gulf Coast.
