SENATOBIA – There were no April Fools' hijinks in Senatobia on Saturday, as freshman
Harley Smith tossed two complete game shutouts in a 14-0 and 4-0 conference sweep of Hinds.
Northwest improved to 17-11 on the season and 11-5 in the MACJC, while also staying unbeaten at home with a 10-0 record within the friendly confines of Ranger Field.
Smith worked her way out of danger in the top of the first as Hinds stranded a pair of runners in scoring position. After two hits in the frame, Hinds was limited to just one for the remainder of the contest.
Despite a scoreless first inning, the Rangers responded in a big way in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs on three hits.
A single from sophomore
Allison Williams set the scoring in motion for Northwest in the second. Following a pair of walks to Smith and
Leeah Henson,
Morgan Gresham was hit with the bases loaded to draw in the first Ranger run.
Kailey Walker and
Ally Judkins hit back-to-back singles to center field to bring in three more runs, giving the Rangers a 4-0 lead. A wild pitch and a bases-loaded walk allowed two additional runs that extended the Northwest lead to 6-0 after two complete.
Smith got the Rangers going again in the third with a leadoff triple to right field and scored on the next at-bat, thanks to an RBI-grounder to second from Henson. A wild pitch allowed
Amber Helmes to score from third and extend the Northwest advantage to 8-0.
Northwest struck again with another six-run frame in the fourth, highlighted by RBI-singles from Smith, Walker and Judkins. A bases-loaded walk to Carver and a two-run single from
Tori Luke effectively spelled the end for Hinds, as the Rangers came away with the 14-0 final in five innings.
Northwest had 11 hits in the opener, led by a 2-for-2 effort with a triple and an RBI from Smith. Walker also went 2-for-4 in the leadoff slot with three RBIs, while Judkins finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
Following a scoreless first inning for both teams in the nightcap, the Rangers again delivered the first blow in the second inning, as Henson's RBI-single to second scored Smith and gave Northwest the 1-0 lead.
Three hits in the fifth inning helped set up another run for the Rangers, as Luke's RBI-single to left scored Judkins to make it a 2-0 lead.

Alexis Winters and
Alexis McShan, sealing the 4-0 victory and the sweep against Hinds.
