MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Nearly missing on a quadruple-double a week ago against Faith Prep, freshman
Tremont Robinson's triple-double at Tennessee Prep Academy helped the Rangers race past the Diplomats 94-62 Thursday night to improve to 2-0 on the year.
The win was No. 275 at Northwest for longtime head coach
Bubba Skelton, who set the school's all-time wins mark back in January 2016.
In a back-and-forth, up-tempo game for a full 40 minutes, Northwest built a 57-37 halftime lead on
Jitaurious Gordon's floater at the buzzer and then dished out valuable minutes late in a 30-point win.
Alex Shepard had a career-high 15 points in the first half and Robinson was one assist and one steal away from his triple-double in 13 first half minutes.
The Rangers shot a sizzling 56 percent against 40 for TPA, with 11 different players hitting a field goal.
Building its lead to 23 minutes into the second half, two Anthony Mason free throws helped start an 11-4 run for the Diplomats to pull within 70-54 with 11:54 to play.
But that's as close as they would get, with Northwest responding with an 18-2 run over the next eight minutes.
Behind Shepard's team-high 15 points, T. Robinson,
Radarius Washington and
Miles Washington added 12 apiece. Robinson added 12 assists and 10 steals to record the school's first triple-double in over a decade.
TPA was led by Will Mangum's 17 points and 13 rebounds in addition to a double-double from Mason.
Northwest closed the night shooting 45 percent against 35 for TPA. Northwest forced 37 turnovers, picking up 26 steals.
Northwest will return to action on Monday, Nov. 13 at ASU Mid-South. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in West Memphis, Ark.
