Fast Start Lifts Lady Rangers to 88-52 Season-Opening Win over BMC

SENATOBIA – Twelve different Lady Rangers found the scoring column, led by Abbreanna Miller's 14 and Ciara Pettis' near triple-double, as Northwest rolled to an 88-52 season-opening win over Blue Mountain JV Thursday night at Howard Coliseum.

Northwest led 29-9 after a quarter of play as Mercades Ward scored nine early points and added three steals.

Kylie Massengill tried to keep BMC in the game with nine points in the second quarter, with the Lady Toppers outscoring Northwest 17-12 to pull within 41-26 at the half.

Northwest began to wear BMC down in the second half, making a living in the paint and forcing the visitors into 18 second half turnovers as the game stretched to a 30-point lead late.

Bench play was the key factor in the big Lady Ranger win, with Northwest's bench outscoring BMC 60-10. Miller had 14, followed by Ward and Kayla Bradley with 11 apiece in just over a dozen minutes of action.

Northwest shot 37 percent on the night, finishing with 28 assists on 36 made field goals. Pettis had nine assists to go along with nine points, six rebounds and three steals.

Massengill played all but one minute for BMC and ended with a game-high 19 points and seven rebounds. Morgan Whitaker added five points and 12 rebounds.

Northwest will travel to East Central for a 5:30 tipoff on Monday, Nov. 6 at Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium. It's the first meeting between the two teams since Dec. 8, 2012, a 72-50 Lady Ranger win in Senatobia.
