SENATOBIA – Behind a game-high 22 points from
Jitaurious Gordon and near quadruple-double from
Tremont Robinson, Northwest jumped out to big halftime lead and never looked back in a 106-73 season-opening win over Faith Prep Academy Thursday night at Howard Coliseum.
Northwest led for all but 29 seconds on the night, building a 61-35 lead at the half behind 52 percent shooting and easy transition baskets. The Rangers forced 18 Warrior turnovers that turned into 23 points on the offensive end.
Gordon, one of five Rangers in double figures, scored 15 of his 22 in the first half on 6-of-7 aim.
Faith Prep opened the second half on a 15-5 run to pull within 68-50 with 15:20 to play before the Rangers responded with 18 of the next 24 points.
Miles Washington sparked the Ranger run with four quick points, while
Therrell Gosier II, Gordon,
Alex Shepard and Robinson all added baskets over the six-minute stretch.
Robinson scored 13 of his 18 in the second half, adding nine assists, eight steals and six rebounds in 25 minutes.
Thirteen different Rangers found the scoring column, led by Gordon's 22, 18 from Robinson, 12 from
Clinton Moses and 11 apiece from
Justin Flakes and Gosier.
Northwest owned a slight edge in rebounds and turnovers and made the most of its opportunities in the paint wiht a 60-34 edge. The Rangers shot 49 percent against 37 for Faith Prep.
Rameek Wooten scored a team-high 17 off the bench for Faith Prep, following by Kamari Marrs with 13 and James Scott with 10 points and 11 boards.
Northwest will enjoy a week off before returning to the hardwood Thursday, Nov. 9 at Tennessee Prep. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at W.E.B. DuBois Arts & Tech, located at 817 Brownlee Road, Memphis, Tenn.
