WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. – With multiple chances to win the game in the final 10 seconds of the first overtime, Northwest missed four consecutive put-back layups that allowed homestanding ASU Mid-South to steal a 92-84 win in double overtime Monday night at The Dog House.
ASU Mid-South improved to 4-2, while Northwest squandered its second straight double digit lead late in falling to 1-2.
Northwest trailed 18-12 after a quarter of play but rallied to lead by four at the half and by seven, 57-50, after three quarters. The Lady Rangers led by as many as 14 with 5:14 left in the third.
Sable Greer's layup with 3:35 left in the fourth knotted the game at 63-all for the Lady Greyhounds and she'd put ASU Mid-South up 67-65 with 1:07 to play on another easy basket.
Two free throws from
Ciara Pettis with 59 seconds left tied the game at 67-all and neither could find the winner in regulation.
The teams exchanged baskets during the first overtime and were tied four times before Summer Abram's 3-pointer gave ASU Mid-South a 76-73 lead with 51 seconds left.
Shelbi Buford then calmly sank the game-tying 3-pointer on the Lady Rangers' next possession right in front of their own bench to make it 76-76 with 25 ticks left.
A
Kayla Bradley steal with 11 seconds left looked to give Northwest the win in transition, but Bradley's layup rolled off the rim.
Mercades Ward,

Tamaria Thomas all followed with offensive rebounds and unsuccessful put-back attempts as the game went into a second overtime.
Ward quickly gave Northwest an 80-76 lead in the second overtime period, but back-to-back-to-back Abram 3-pointers put ASU Mid-South up 85-80 as part of a 9-0 run.
Northwest got no closer than three the final 1:59 as the Lady Greyhounds held on for a 92-84 win.

Chrissah Shaw added 20 points and Ward added 16 points and nine rebounds.
Four Lady Greyhounds finished in double figures, led by 20 apiece from Greer and Abram.
Both teams shot under 34 percent, with Northwest connecting on just 29 percent. The Lady Rangers led for 29:47 in the game against just 11:09 for ASU Mid-South.
Northwest will play host to Mineral Area on Thursday at 2 p.m. and Lawson State on Friday at 12 p.m. as part of the Lady Rangers' annual Tri-States Classic.
