POPLARVILLE – Sophomore
Lauren Snyder delivered the game-winning goal in the 97th minute in a 1-0 overtime victory for Northwest, upsetting previously unbeaten Pearl River in the MACJC Quarterfinals on Tuesday night.
Northwest improved to 11-5 with its fourth consecutive win, while PRCC ended its season 8-1-4.
Snyder's goal was her third score of the season – all game-winning goals – and her fifth career game-winner.
With both teams flirting with double overtime in the late stages of the first extra period,
Carolyn Rials delivered a well-played ball to Snyder, whose high kick landed in the right corner of the net past Pearl River keeper Karsen Gildea for the golden goal.
Northwest was outshot 28-3 for the match, but all three of the Lady Rangers' shots came on goal.
Freshman
Angel Hailey delivered a career-best performance for the Lady Rangers, finishing with 17 saves and improving her record to 7-0 between the posts.
Northwest will move on to the MACJC Tournament this weekend in Ridgeland. The Lady Rangers will face tournament host and 16th-ranked Holmes on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Freedom Ridge Park.
