RIDGELAND – A 1-0 halftime lead wasn't enough to hold off a strong Holmes team, as the 16th-ranked Lady Bulldogs responded with three second half goals in a 3-1 win over Northwest in the MACJC Semifinals at Freedom Ridge Park on Saturday.
Angelica Justice helped Northwest strike first, connecting with
Carolyn Rials for her fifth goal of the season and a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute.
Holmes kept up the intensity to start the second half, and in the 57th minute, Britain Welzien found Taylor Gagneaux to tie the match at 1-1.
Just a few minutes later, the Lady Bulldogs added another goal from Madison Deslatte to help Holmes gain control with a 2-1 lead.
In the 82nd minute, Sarah Donahoo would finally put the match on ice for Holmes with her third goal of the season.
Holmes outshot Northwest 29-9 for the match, 16-4 on goal.
Angel Hailey finished with her second double-digit save performance (13), despite suffering her first loss of the season. Hailey caps her freshman season with a 7-1 individual record.
Northwest concludes the 2017 season at 11-6 overall, a noticeable improvement from last season's two-win total.
