Lady Rangers Blank Southwest Tennessee in Home Finale

SENATOBIA – Five Lady Rangers scored their first goals of the season and Northwest took a whopping 31 shots on goal in a 7-0 victory against Southwest Tennessee on Saturday afternoon's Sophomore Day.

Northwest improved to 10-5 on the season with the non-conference victory, assuring the Lady Rangers their fourth 10-win season in program history and the second under fifth-year head coach Levi Nunnally.

Northwest wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as sophomore Mackenzie Fennell netted her first goal of the season just over two minutes into the match.

Freshman Autumn Harra then added her second goal of the season in the 32nd minute, which was quickly followed by freshman Addison Robinson's first score of the season in the 40th minute that stretched the Lady Rangers' lead to 3-0 at halftime.

There would be no shortage of scoring in the second half either, as Caitlan Dew made it a 4-0 lead by scoring off a free kick in the 55th minute. Dew would then add an assist on Madison Thrasher's goal in the 57th minute, pushing the lead to 5-0.

Freshmen Maisy Cooper and Angelica Justice capped off the scoring late in the second half with the final two goals, with Justice nailing a free kick from 45 yards out that took a slow roll into the net.

Northwest controlled possession for almost the entire match and outshot Southwest Tennessee by a lopsided 40-0 total.

Angel Hailey and Makenzie Ellis split time between the posts, with Hailey improving her season record to 6-0 on the year.

Northwest will face off against Pearl River on Tuesday in the play-in match of the MACJC Tournament. Start time is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Poplarville and a live broadcast will be provided through http://www.prccmedia.com/Home.
