SENATOBIA – A pair of second half goals from
Carolyn Rials and
Landyn Hoover helped lift Northwest to a 2-0 victory against Itawamba on Friday afternoon.
Northwest improved to 8-5 overall and 3-4 in division play, while ICC fell to 9-6 overall and 5-2 in the north.
ICC outshot Northwest 20-14 for the match and 15-5 on goal, but
Liv Nault was superb between the posts, notching 12 saves and improving her record to 4-5 before exiting the match in the 78th minute with an injury.
Sophomore Gaby Villatoro helped put the Lady Rangers on the board in the 57th minute, connecting with Rials on a 20-yard floater that broke a scoreless tie and gave the freshman her fourth goal of the season.
Hoover would then deliver the dagger in the 76th minute, taking a free kick from
Angelica Justice and hammering it past the keeper to give Northwest the 2-0 advantage.
Freshman
Angel Hailey finished out the final 12 minutes for Nault and collected three saves.
Northwest will travel to Hinds on Tuesday, Oct. 17 4 p.m. for the division finale at 4 p.m. A win or tie would clinch the Lady Rangers' first playoff berth since the 2014 season.
