SENATOBIA – Just when it seemed like a second overtime period was in store, East Central's Ashley Langham scored the golden goal as time expired to defeat Northwest 1-0 in heartbreaking fashion Wednesday afternoon.
Northwest fell to 7-5 overall, 2-4 in the north division, while East Central improved to 4-4-2 and 2-4-1 in division play.
Both teams had plenty of chances to score in regulation, but thanks to the superb efforts of both goalkeepers, the match was left to be settled in overtime.
As time began to wind down in the first overtime period, Kelli Vaughn deflected a shot to Langham just before the horn for the game-winner.
Northwest was outshot 26-11, including 13-6 on goal.
Liv Nault made 12 stops for the Lady Rangers, good for her fourth match this season with double-digit saves.
Northwest will host Itawamba on Friday, Oct. 13, looking to keep its playoff chances alive. ICC took a 1-0 overtime victory in Fulton earlier this season.
Friday's match is slated for a 1 p.m. start. Live stats will be available through
