MOORHEAD – Northwest used a 28-point third quarter to pull away for an 89-67 road win over Mississippi Delta on Thursday night, capping a 2-0 week in north division play.
Thirteen different Lady Rangers recorded a basket in the stat sheet, led by
Averyale Joy's 17 points and eight assists.
BrayLee Landreth added seven points and a season-high 11 rebounds in 12 minutes.
Northwest improved to 8-4 overall, 2-2 in the north, while MDCC fell to 1-11 overall and 0-3 in division play.
After the host Lady Trojans scored the game's first points, baskets from
Destiny Gardner and Joy put Northwest ahead for good.
Northwest closed the first quarter on a 12-4 run to push the lead to double figures and led 40-31 at the half.
The third quarter was the turning point of the game, with Northwest outscoring MDCC 28-15 thanks to a dominating effort on the glass and stingy defense. The Lady Rangers had 15 offensive boards in the quarter and finished with 37 on the night, while forcing seven turnovers in the quarter.
Northwest's lead grew to as many as 26 with 7:12 to play, 75-49, with the Lady Rangers emptying their bench in the fourth.
Shernique Adams had nine points to lead all reserves, with
Deja Faulkner adding eight points. Six other Lady Rangers scored six points.
MDCC was led by Alexis Augustus' game-high 20 points, going 12-for-14 at the charity stripe.
