SENATOBIA – Northwest fell victim to a pair of own goals against Holmes on Friday afternoon, allowing the visiting Lady Bulldogs to stay unbeaten with a 3-2 victory.
Northwest dropped its fourth straight match to fall to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in division play, while Holmes improved to 4-0 and 2-0 in the north.
Despite the final shot tally of 18-6 in favor of Holmes, the Lady Rangers were two bad breaks away from picking up their first division win in nine tries dating back to last season.
The first own goal came in the 17th minute but Northwest was able to tie the match right before the halftime buzzer on
Anna Kayte Webb's third goal of the year.
Mackenzie Fennell's shot was stopped and Webb was in perfect position in front of the net to tap it in for the equalizer.
The second own goal came just 4:35 into the second period after another ricochet off a Lady Ranger defender.
Holmes extended its lead to 3-1 in the 72nd minute off a goal by Kendal Walsh but Northwest would answer 58 seconds later with
Kimbre Watros' first career goal off a header from
Sierra Lasher.
Northwest's only other game-tying opportunity came in the 80th minute when
Lauren Snyder's shot sailed wide left.
Ivy Cook had a career-high 12 saves in the match and was only responsible for one goal late in the second half. Emily Murray only needed two saves for Holmes to pick up the win.
Northwest will travel to Itawamba (1-2-1, 0-2) on Tuesday, Sept. 13. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and will be streamed live at
