Lady Rangers Play Itawamba to Scoreless Double Overtime Draw

FULTON – Northwest needed a career-high 17 saves from freshman Ivy Cook and dodged three shots that hit the crossbar to play Itawamba to a scoreless double overtime draw Tuesday afternoon.

Northwest, winless in its last nine division matches, moved to 1-4-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the division on the season, while Itawamba moved to 2-2-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the north.

Itawamba hit the crossbar in the 23rd, 28th and 31st minutes of the first half, unable to score, while Cook had 10 of her 17 saves in the first 45 minutes to keep it a tie game.

Itawamba was the clear aggressor in the first half with 15 shots to Northwest's six but the Lady Rangers had the upper hand in the second half and constantly fired on Ana Branch but couldn't find the go-ahead goal.

Brooke Younger had the best look at the game-winner for ICC in the 86th minute but Cook made a huge save that eventually forced extra time.

Lauren Snyder had two scoring opportunities late for Northwest, with the first one in the 83rd minute a perfectly played ball by Anna Kayte Webb that scooted off her left foot and wide right, while the second one in the 87th minute was also wide right after Branch left the goal unattended.

Snyder and Sierra Lasher each had scoring opportunities in the overtime periods but neither found the back of the net.

Itawamba managed just one shot in two, 10-minute overtime periods and it was denied by Cook.

The final shot tally was 30-18 (17-6 on goal) in favor of the Lady Indians, while both teams finished with 14 fouls apiece (two yellow cards for Itawamba).

Northwest will return to action this weekend, Sept. 17-18 in St. Louis, Mo. Check nwccrangers.com for times.
