RAYMOND –
Two goals from freshman
Anna Kayte Webb led a gritty Northwest effort, but it was Hinds that would end up with the 4-2 victory Saturday afternoon in Raymond at Tom Shepherd Field.
Hinds (1-2, 1-0 north) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead midway through the first half, thanks to a pair of goals from Lauren Smith and Kristi Rayner. The Lady Eagles would maintain that lead into the halftime break.
Less than three minutes into the second half, Webb would respond with her first collegiate goal, taking in a stray ball from
Mackenzie Fennell in front of the net.
A corner kick from
Sierra Lasher helped setup a header from Webb in the 69th minute, tying the match at 2-2.
Despite the aggressive effort from Northwest in the second half, Hinds would be the team to pull away late as the Lady Eagles used a pair of goals in the 78th and 82nd minutes to seal the win. Zenovia Harris provided the first score for the Lady Eagles while Semaj Brown delivered the final blow.
Ivy Cook finished with six saves on the day for Northwest. Torri Hayden provided two for Hinds.
Hinds also outshot Northwest 12-9 in the contest, including a 10-4 advantage on goal.
Northwest (1-2, 0-1 north) will open the 2016 home slate on Wednesday, Sept. 7 against north division foe East Central. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Senatobia.
