MERIDIAN – Northwest struggled on the road Friday in women's tennis action, falling 9-0 to No. 16 Meridian.
Northwest fell to 3-5 on the season while Meridian improved its season record to 14-2.
Meridian quickly earned victories in the first two matches of doubles play, but the Lady Rangers' tandem of
Emily Newman and
Emily Standard battled at the No. 3 slot before dropping a competitive 8-4 decision to Paige Gibson and Shelby Zachry.
Singles play wasn't kind to the Lady Rangers either, as Meridian claimed easy victories on Nos. 3-6. Freshman
Katie Burrall highlighted singles competition for Northwest, dueling against 43rd-ranked Paige Gibson at the No. 1 position. Burrall's hard-fought effort came up just short though as Gibson held on for the 6-4, 6-4 win.
Northwest will continue its road tilt Saturday, April 9 at East Central. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. in Decatur.
