PERKINSTON – Another competitive season for the Northwest tennis teams came to a close on Friday at the MACJC/Region 23 Championships, with the women placing seventh and the men finishing ninth overall.

After an 0-3 start to the season, the Lady Rangers came away with season sweeps against Holmes and Northeast and a win against Copiah-Lincoln to finish with five wins overall. Unranked to open the season, the men's team scored an upset over then-No. 24 Hinds before sweeping Northeast and Holmes, while splitting with Itawamba to finish the year at 6-7 and ranked 23rd by the ITA.

Overall, the women won four combined singles/doubles matches and saw the Northwest duo of Emily Newman and Emily Standard advance to the semifinal round. The Ranger men's tandem of Zak Harbin and Dalton Young also advanced to the semifinals in doubles competition but fell in a tough 7-6, 6-3 battle against Gulf Coast's Brennen O'Keefe and Noah Tippen.
