PERKINSTON – A sweep in doubles competition helped set the tone for No. 18 Gulf Coast as Northwest fell 7-2 on the road Saturday.
Northwest dropped to 4-3 on the season with the loss and snapped its three-match winning streak. Gulf Coast improved to 10-3 overall.
Following the sweep in doubles play, Northwest was unable to gain the momentum in singles as the Bulldogs collected wins at Nos. 1, 2, 5 and 6.
The Rangers were able to salvage a pair of tiebreaker wins in the middle of the lineup, however, as
Dalton Young tallied his sixth victory of the season at the No. 3 slot, 3-6, 6-2, 10-3, against 45th-ranked Noah Tippen. His win was also the freshman's first career victory against an ITA-ranked opponent. Fellow freshman
Zak Harbin's victory at the No. 4 position was also his sixth consecutive victory of the season.
Northwest will return home on Monday, April 4 against Northeast (0-10). First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the Ranger Outdoor Complex (The ROC).
