GOODMAN – Claiming five victories in singles play, the Northwest Lady Rangers ended the regular season on a high note with a 7-2 road victory at Holmes on Monday afternoon.
Northwest concluded the regular season with a 5-8 overall record.
Doubles competition finished in the Lady Rangers' favor as Northwest took victories at the No. 1 and 3 positions. Freshmen
Katie Burrall and
Piper Johnson took their fourth straight doubles win at the No. 1 slot with an 8-5 victory against the Holmes duo of Allie Furdge and
Kaylan Cooper. The Northwest tandem of
Emily Newman and
Emily Standard were also victorious at No. 3, taking a dominating 8-1 victory and allowing Northwest to take a 2-1 advantage into singles play.
Northwest continued the momentum into singles competition and captured five of the six individual matches. Johnson continued her recent success in singles play with a 6-0, 6-4 win at the No. 2 slot, stretching her individual winning streak to three matches and earning her team-leading seventh victory. Sophomore
Kendall McCoy also won her third consecutive match with a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 6.
Postseason play is up next for the Lady Rangers as Northwest competes in the MACJC/Region 23 Championship at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Tournament action is set to kick-off Wednesday and run through Saturday, April 23.
