GOODMAN – Despite falling behind after doubles play, Northwest rallied to capture four singles victories and escape with a 5-4 victory at Holmes on Monday afternoon.
Northwest ended the regular season with a 6-7 overall mark.
Zak Harbin and
Dalton Young continued their recent doubles dominance with an 8-1 victory at the No. 2 slot, marking their fourth consecutive victory and ending the regular season with a 9-4 record. Holmes took the remaining two doubles matches, however, and entered singles competition with a 2-1 advantage.
Holmes took a pair of wins at the top two positions, but the rest of singles play belonged to the Rangers. Young improved his record to 12-1 on the season with an impressive 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 3 slot and
Zak Harbin followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win on No. 4 to move to 11-2 overall. Northwest then wrapped up singles competition with a pair of tiebreaker victories from
Zaen Harbin and
Quentin Hutchinson at the No. 5 and 6 positions.
Northwest will enter postseason play at the MACJC/Region 23 Championship this week at Mississippi Gulf Coast. Tournament action is scheduled to begin on Wednesday and run through Saturday, April 23.
