SENATOBIA – Trailing 2-1 after doubles play, Northwest rallied for four wins in singles play to pull off a 5-4 upset of the 24th-ranked Hinds men's tennis team Friday afternoon at the Ranger Outdoor Complex (The ROC).
Northwest moved to 1-1 on the young season and will host nationally-ranked Jones Saturday at 2 p.m.
Freshmen
Zak Harbin and
Dalton Young scored the Rangers' lone doubles point, defeating the pair of Hayden Hendon/Landon Young, 8-1, at the No. 2 position.
Daniel Yepez's win over
Quentin Hutchinson at the No. 1 spot gave Hinds a 3-1 lead before Northwest rallied.
The Rangers rolled off wins at No.'s 2, 3, 4 and 6 to outscore the Eagles 4-1 down the stretch for a 5-4 victory.
Northwest is now 7-2 its last nine matches against ITA ranked opponents.
