MOORHEAD – Scoring points proved to be no problem for Northwest on Monday night, as four Lady Rangers finished in double figures to lead the team to a 90-73 road victory at Mississippi Delta.
Sophomore
Sara Lytle led all scorers with her eighth double-double of the season (26 points, 10 rebounds).
Kelsey Brown (18 points),
Averyale Joy (13 points) and
Brianna Williams (10 points) also reached double figures for the Lady Rangers.
With the win, Northwest improved to 14-4 overall and 7-3 in the MACJC North Division. Mississippi Delta fell to 1-18 and 0-9 in division play.
Northwest raced out to a fast start early, going up 11-1 en route to a season-high 29 points in the first quarter. The Lady Rangers scored eight points off the bench in the period, with six coming from
Alyssia King.
Mississippi Delta began to chip away at the lead in the second period, cutting the deficit down to just four with roughly four and a half minutes remaining before halftime. However, a 3-pointer from Brown and a layup from
Janesha Johnson set up a spark for the Lady Rangers before the halftime break. Northwest finished the first half with a seven-point advantage and led the Lady Trojans 45-38 at halftime.
After the Lady Trojans cut the lead down to three points early in the third period, Northwest caught fire once again and expanded its lead out to 14 points with just over three minutes remaining in the third. From that point, the Lady Rangers offense hit cruise control and pulled away for the division win against Mississippi Delta.
Northwest outscored the Lady Trojans 24-14 in bench points and led by as many as 20 on the night.
Mississippi Delta was paced by Racquel Harper's 23 points and 11 rebounds. Kenya Arnold and O'Neasha Hunt also contributed 10 points each for the Lady Trojans.
Northwest will wrap up its regular season home slate on Thursday against Coahoma. Tip is scheduled for 5 p.m.
