Lady Rangers Earn 84-66 Win over Coahoma in Home Finale

SENATOBIA – Five players finished in double figures for Northwest on Thursday night, as the Lady Rangers downed Coahoma 84-66 in the regular season home finale at Howard Coliseum.

Led by 18 points and eight rebounds from sophomore Sara Lytle, the Lady Rangers improved to 15-4 on the season and 8-3 in division play, clinching a playoff berth for a fourth-straight season. Coahoma fell to 4-17 and 2-8 in division play.

After falling behind 12-8 to start the first period of play, the Lady Rangers rallied back to close the quarter on a 17-1 scoring run. Northwest also outscored Coahoma 13-0 in bench points and led 25-13 entering the second period.

Northwest's offensive attack showed no signs of slowing down in the second period, as the Lady Rangers' bench continued to show out, scoring 11 points in the quarter. Northwest also shut out the Lady Tigers during the final 1:30 before halftime, while also scoring eight points of their own to take a 48-32 lead into the locker room.
 
Northwest never surrendered the lead in the second half and led by as many as 24 early in the fourth period, en route to the 18-point victory. The win also allowed Northwest to finish 9-1 at home this season, marking the 20th home winning record in the last 21 seasons for Don Edwards and the Lady Rangers.

In addition to Lytle's 18 points, fellow sophomores Alyssia King and Brianna Williams finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Freshmen Janesha Johnson (13 points) and Averyale Joy (11 points) also finished in double figures. Northwest outscored Coahoma 39-15 in bench points and 40-26 in the paint.

Melvinisha Jenkins led the Lady Tigers with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Tomaja Shaw and Eugenia Gilliam also contributed 13 points in the loss.

Northwest will wrap up the regular season next Thursday, Feb. 18 at East Mississippi. In the two teams' previous meeting on Jan. 25, EMCC defeated Northwest 76-74 in Senatobia. Tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Scooba.
