Lady Rangers Defeat EMCC 75-61 in Regular Season Finale

SCOOBA – Northwest led by 12 after a quarter of play and never looked back in earning its fifth consecutive win, 75-61, to close the regular season at East Mississippi on Thursday night.

Led by double-digit scoring efforts from three Lady Rangers, Northwest closed the regular season at 16-4 overall and 9-3 in the MACJC North Division. East Mississippi fell to 13-8 on the season and 7-5 in division play.

With the win, the Lady Rangers wrapped up second place in the north division and will face the No. 3-south division seed Copiah-Lincoln (20-3) in the first round of the MACJC Tournament on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Fulton.

Northwest broke a 5-5 tie early in the first period, thanks to a layup in the paint from sophomore Sara Lytle with just under seven minutes remaining in the quarter. From there, the Lady Rangers closed the quarter on a 16-4 scoring run and led the Lady Lions 21-9 after one period of play.

Northwest continued to keep the offensive spark going on in the second period, as sophomore Alyssia King scored five of the Lady Rangers' seven points off the bench. Northwest also expanded its lead to as many as 19 late in the second, as the Lady Rangers took a 33-17 lead into halftime.

East Mississippi tried to close the gap in the second half, as the Lady Lions cut the deficit to six points during the final portion of the third period. However, the Lady Rangers went on an offensive tear over the course of the fourth period and scored a total of 30 points, including 12 from Lytle and eight from Brianna Williams.

Williams finished the night with her second double-double of the season (16 points, 13 rebounds), while Lytle collected 28 points and six rebounds. Freshman Janesha Johnson also scored 10 points in the win.

EMCC was led by four players in double figures, including Ki-Ki Patterson (15 points) and Quantesha Patterson (13).
