Northwest Finishes 1-1 at MAC Holiday Inn Classic

PARK HILLS, Mo. – After a three week layoff, Northwest returned to the hardwood Dec. 28-29 at the Holiday Inn Classic, knocking off host Mineral Area 75-63 before a 99-87 loss to Jefferson College.

With the split, Northwest moved to 6-2 on the young season.

In Wednesday's win over MAC (7-6), Northwest trailed 20-19 after a quarter but outscored the Lady Cards by 16 the ensuing two quarters to cruise to a double digit win.

Janesha Johnson had a game-high 22 points, followed by Brooke Walker and Chrissah Shaw with 11 apiece, while Averyale Joy added seven points and eight assists.

Both teams shot under 39 percent for the game but the Lady Rangers were able to force 20 MAC turnovers and owned a small edge on the glass.

Jefferson College (7-8) took advantage of another poor shooting afternoon for Northwest on Thursday and had four of its five starters in double figures in a 99-87 win over the Lady Rangers.

Jeff Co. shot 50 percent for the game, while limiting Northwest to 37 percent shooting and 5-of-35 from beyond the arc.

Dominique Jennings and Alexian Collie pumped in 26 and 21 for Jeff Co. as the Lady Vikings led by four, 22-18, after a quarter and never trailed the rest of the afternoon.

Joy led four Lady Rangers in double figures with 22 points, followed by Johnson and Shaw with 17 apiece and Destiny Gardner with her second career double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Northwest will return to action Tuesday, Jan. 10 at Arkansas Baptist. Live video and stats will be available.
