SENATOBIA – In a much anticipated rematch between the top two teams in the north division, Tuesday's game did not disappoint.
Hinds built a 4-0 lead in the first 51 minutes but had to hold off four unanswered goals from Northwest to win 5-4 in overtime on Patrick Ross' golden goal.
Hinds improved to 5-3-1 overall and stayed unbeaten in division play at 4-0-1, while Northwest dropped its fourth straight match to fall to 4-5-1 and 2-2-1 in the north.
The first meeting between the two teams also needed overtime before ending in a 2-2 draw.
Trailing 3-0 at half and 4-0 in the 51st minute,
Christian Clements' first of two goals, off a
Jonathan Felix assist, gave Northwest some life.
Four minutes later,
Michael Ledbetter added his team-leading seventh goal of the year from
David Raymundo.
Peyton McKnatt pulled Northwest within 4-3 in the 77th minute and Clements capped the furious comeback with a beautiful goal from
Lance Crabtree in the 85th minute to force overtime.
Hinds needed just 1:18 in the first overtime to score the game-winner, with Ross beating a pair of Ranger defenders and firing it bottom shelf to beat
Brandon Carrillo.
Hinds owned a 29-13 shot advantage but the teams were an even 12-12 in the second half after the Rangers were outshot 16-1 in the opening 45 minutes.
Northwest will look to snap a four-match losing streak on Friday at 3 p.m. against East Central.
