Lady Bulldogs Handle Northwest, 93-59

GOODMAN – The homestanding Holmes Lady Bulldogs raced out to a 22-point first quarter lead and never looked back in a 93-59 rout of Northwest Thursday night.

Holmes improved to 13-5 overall and 4-3 in the division with the win while Northwest dropped to 11-4 and 4-3. The two teams split the season series, with both teams protecting their home court.

Kawaii Perry hit three straight 3-pointers for Holmes to set the tone for the Lady Bulldogs in the game's opening 1:22. A seven point lead quickly grew to 34-12 after a quarter of play as Holmes closed the quarter on a 17-4 run.

The Lady Bulldogs shot 50 percent in the half while holding Northwest to 32 percent and had three scorers in double figures in the first 20 minutes in Tiffany Jones (15), Perry (13) and Aja Williams (11). Sara Lytle was the lone bright spot, scoring 14 to lead all Lady Rangers.

Holmes continued to pile it on in the third quarter by outscoring Northwest by 11 and things went from bad to worse in the fourth as the lead ballooned to 91-43. Northwest's struggles from the field turned into easy baskets on the other end and a 48-16 edge in the paint.

The Lady Rangers closed the game on a high note, however, outscoring Holmes 16-2 the final 6:49 and holding them without a field goal the final 4:22.

Northwest was led by Lytle's 16 points, followed by Averyale Joy with 12 points, six rebounds and five assists and Kelsey Brown with 10 points. Jones had a 26-point, 11-rebound effort to lead Holmes.

Holmes outshot Northwest 47-28 percent from the floor and enjoyed a 22-point rebounding edge.

Northwest will try and rebound against Itawamba on Monday, Feb. 1. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. in Senatobia.
