SENATOBIA – Northwest dropped its north division opener on Friday afternoon to Holmes, 1-0.
Holmes improved to 3-1 overall (1-0 north division) while Northwest fell to 1-1-1 (0-1) on the young season.
The lone goal of the match came in the 29th minute when Micaela Robinson scored off a rebound after a save by
Ashley Nelson. Kylee Laird's shot bounced off Nelson's chest and at the feet of Robinson who drove it into the back of the net for the eventual game-winner.
Northwest was the clear aggressor in the second half with multiple scoring opportunities but just couldn't find the equalizer. Holmes outshot Northwest 18-14 but the Lady Rangers owned an 8-7 advantage in shots-on-goal.
Emily Murray had eight saves for Holmes in a clean sheet against six saves for Nelson.
Northwest will try and bounce back on Wednesday, Sept. 9, traveling to East Central for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
