Lady Rangers Close Out Four-Match Swing in Five Days

SENATOBIA – Northwest wrapped up a stretch of four matches in five days on Saturday, dropping a 2-0 decision to Gulf Coast to finish the rigorous week 1-2-1.

Northwest opened the week with a 3-0 loss at Meridian on Tuesday, defeated Co-Lin 4-1 on Wednesday and tied Co-Lin 1-1 on Friday before Saturday's loss dropped the Lady Rangers' record to 3-5-2 on the year.

In a 1-1 double overtime tie vs Co-Lin, Jhessika Crosby had 15 saves to keep the Lady Wolves in the match despite being out-shot by Northwest by an overwhelming 37-8 (16-5 on goal) margin.

Co-Lin struck first in the 9th minute, scoring off a Si'Edriq Middleton goal that deflected off a Northwest defender and went the opposite way of Lady Ranger keeper Ashley Nelson.

Northwest responded just 4:43 later, tying the match at 1-1 on Katherine Sanders' first collegiate goal. Sanders took a rebound shot after a shot from Tristan Kitchens and buried it into the back of the net.

But that's all the scoring the match would see to close out regulation and through two, 10-minute overtime periods.

On Saturday against MGCCC, the Lady Bulldogs used an unassisted goal from Abigail Smith in the 29th minute and added another from Madisen Giese on a penalty kick in the 81st minute, to come away with a 2-0 road win over Northwest.

The match was mainly dominated by fouls, with the teams combining for more fouls (31) than total shots (27).

Kristen Hicks and Kassady Walters combined for nine saves for the Lady Bulldogs in the shutout. Nelson had eight saves.

Northwest will host Southwest Mississippi at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lady Rangers won 2-1 earlier this year in Summit.
