MERIDIAN – Behind two goals from the conference's leading scorer, Effie Morrison, including the go-ahead goal in the 7th minute, host Meridian knocked off Northwest 3-0 Tuesday afternoon in a non-division matchup at C.D. Smith Field.
Meridian improved to 5-3-1 while Northwest fell to 2-4-1.
Evenly matched in the final box score, Meridian held a slight 16-14 advantage in the shot column while both keepers picked up nine saves apiece.
Northwest had some chances within the first 2 minutes of the match, with
Abigail Morales getting two shots on goal that were both saved by Chanler Pickering.
Trailing 1-0 with just under 13 minutes to play, Meridian chalked up two late goals from Jordyn Hull and Morrison in the 78th and 89th minutes to make the final margin 3-0.
Morales finished the afternoon with seven shots (five on goal) in addition to three from
Tristan Kitchens and single shots from four other Lady Rangers.
Ashley Nelson's nine saves ran her season total up to 62 with a 1.48 goals against average.
Northwest will try and bounce back Wednesday at Co-Lin in a makeup match. First kick is set for 3 p.m.
