RAYMOND – Kaylan Johnson's goal in the 109th minute off a Cara Harrison assist allowed the homestanding Lady Eagles to steal a 2-1 win over Northwest in double overtime Friday evening at Tom Shepherd Field.
Hinds improved to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the division while Northwest dropped to 2-3-1 overall and 1-3 in the north at the halfway point.
Northwest struck first in the 19th minute when
Katherine Sanders played a great ball over the top to
Jameka Barr who beat the keeper one-on-one to the lower left corner of the net.
Hinds would rally to tie the match at 1-1 in the 55th minute, using Ashlee Maddox's goal that just trickled past
Ashley Nelson after she made the initial save.
The match went into two, sudden death overtime periods where the Lady Eagles would eventually find the game-winner.
After Northwest missed multiple great scoring chances from
Garrison Pounders, Sanders and Barr in the second overtime, Johnson found the winning goal with 1:46 left for Hinds to steal the win.
Hinds owned an overwhelming shot advantage, 38-10, and 10-0 edge in corner kicks.
Nelson finished the match with 16 saves, two shy of her career high.
Northwest will try and bounce back at Meridian on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
