Three second half goals, including two from
Abigail Morales, lifted the Northwest Lady Rangers to their first division win on Wednesday, 3-1, against Itawamba.
With the win, Northwest improved to 2-2-1 overall and 1-2 in the MACJC North Division. Itawamba, meanwhile, fell to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in division play.
Following a scoreless first half, the Lady Rangers struck first in 60th minute, as
Tristan Kitchens and
Sierra Lasher connected with Morales, resulting in her third goal of the season and a 1-0 lead. Less than 10 minutes later, Northwest found the net once again off a penalty kick from Lasher in the 67th minute, extending the gap to 2-0.
A penalty kick in the 72nd minute from Madison Parham allowed Itawamba to respond, cutting the Lady Rangers' lead in half. However, Morales delivered the dagger in the 76th minute off an assist from
Stephanie Sommer, sealing the 3-1 victory for Northwest.
After being outshot 9-3 in the first 45 minutes, Northwest was the clear aggressor in the second half with a 12-5 advantage in shots and three finding the back of the net.
Ashley Nelson finished with eight saves to earn her 12th career win. Breauna Holley had six saves for the visiting Lady Indians.
Northwest will be back in action on Friday with a crucial north division road matchup at Hinds. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. from Raymond.
