Box Score EUNICE, La. – The homestanding and 2nd-ranked LSU Eunice Bengals needed just five innings to run away with a 12-0 run-rule win over 18th-ranked Northwest in the Region 23 Baseball Tournament Quarterfinals Thursday night at Bengal Stadium.
Northwest, shutout for the first time in 71 games, will play East Mississippi in an elimination game at 3 p.m. Friday. Hinds and LSUE will play at 7 p.m. in a winner's bracket game.
LSUE (42-9) led 1-0 after one, taking advantage of a passed ball to put a runner in scoring position and scoring him on Will Watson's two-out single up the middle.
The Bengals tacked on five more in the second, all with two outs, highlighted by Cade Stone's two-run double off the wall and Steven Sensley's two-run opposite field homer to left-center.
Jonathan Lindsey relieved
Colin Liles (3-3) to start the third but was chased one out later after allowing six runs off two hits and three walks.
Davis Brown tossed the final 1.2 innings of the game, allowing two hits, no runs and striking out three in his sixth relief appearance of the season.
TCU signee Mitch Sewald (12-1) needed just 26 pitches to earn the win for LSUE, allowing one hit while striking out three in three, short innings of work.
LSUE out-hit Northwest 10-3, with
LeeMarcus Boyd,
James Clark and
Jamell Newson recording the hits.
Northwest and EMCC will play for a fifth time this season at 3 p.m. The winner advances to a semifinal matchup against Hinds/LSUE at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The loser's season will come to a close.
