BOONEVILLE – Northwest freshman outfielder Clay Casey has been tabbed the MACJC Player of the Week for games played Monday, March 16 through Sunday, March 22 after a memorable six-game stretch.

The weekly accolade is the first of his career and first for a Ranger hitter this season. Freshman Colt Smith is a two-time MACJC Pitcher of the Week selection.

Casey was 9-for-21 (.429) with a double, three home runs (two game-winners), six RBIs and four runs scored in a 4-2 week for Northwest. His solo home run in the bottom of the 6th against Coahoma lifted the Rangers to a 1-0 win in Game 2 while his 3-run home run against No. 8 Jones County in the bottom of the 8th lifted the Rangers to a 3-2 win in Game 1.

The DeSoto Central product is currently riding a 10-game hit streak and has boosted his average almost 100 points since March 15. He's hitting .324 with four doubles, four home runs and 13 RBIs.

Northwest is scheduled to return to the diamond on Saturday, March 28 against Copiah-Lincoln.
