Aspriona Gilbert and
Sara Lytle scored 29 and 18 points to help Northwest pull away from a one-point halftime lead and roll to a 98-85 victory over Mississippi Delta on Monday night.
Northwest improved to 17-4 overall and 7-3 in the north while Mississippi Delta fell to 6-13 and 3-6 in the division.
Northwest took an early four-point lead that was interrupted by Delta for nearly 9 minutes, as the Lady Trojans took their largest lead of the game, 21-13, at the 10:47-mark.
A 16-4 Lady Ranger run put them back in front with 3:19 to play in the half, highlighted by two
Morgan Burroughs 3-pointers and one from
Sara Lytle.
Hayley Davis capped the run with a layup to make it 33-29 in favor of Northwest.
The Lady Trojans fought hard the remainder of the half and tied the score two more times before Northwest entered halftime with a small advantage, 38-37.
Northwest opened the second half on a 13-0 run to pull ahead 51-37 after two three-point plays by Gilbert with assists from
Bethany Lytle and S. Lytle in a minute span.
Gilbert then reached her 11th double-double of the season and seventh in-a-row when she pulled down an offensive rebound and put it back in with 12:34 remaining, making it a 68-52 Lady Ranger lead.
Northwest hit its largest lead of the game, 77-57, at the 10:17-mark after
Alyssia King's 3-pointer.
The Lady Rangers outshot Delta 49 to 44 percent and found the edge 56-32 in points in the paint.
Matching her season-high, Gilbert scored 25 of her 29 points and grabbed seven of her 14 rebounds in the second half. Following Gilbert was S. Lytle, who came close with a quadruple-double, finishing with 18 points, seven steals, six rebounds and five assists.
Tekevanna Young scored 15 points and B. Lytle added nine points and seven assists.
Mississippi Delta had two players score double-doubles in Aqueshia Kimble (23 points, 10 rebounds) and Niya Head (14 points, 13 rebounds). Taraneisha Young contributed 11 points.
Northwest will play its last regular season road game on Thursday, Feb. 12 at Coahoma. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
