WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. – Northwest never trailed in the second half but had to hold off a late Greyhound run in passing its first road test of the season Thursday night, 89-84, at ASU Mid-South.
Northwest won its second in a row to improve to 2-1 while Mid-South fell to 2-1.
The teams exchanged 10 leads and seven ties in the first half alone. Back-to-back-to-back 3s from
Antonio Wilson and
C.J. Chatman gave Northwest a 46-40 lead at the half.
The Rangers led for all but 41 seconds in the second half when ASU Mid-South rallied to tie the game at 83-83 with 1:32 to play.
Single free throws from
Tyrin Jones and
Mark Partee put Northwest on top by two before Trent Steen answered with a free throw to pull it within 85-84.
Seth LeDay and
Dre'Kalo Clayton were able to ice the game with late free throws in the game's final 28 seconds.
Four Rangers finished in double figures, led by LeDay's double-double (21 points, 10 rebounds). Wilson (19), Clayton (13) and Jones (12) followed in the scoring column.
Joe'Randle Toliver had a team-high 22 for the Greyhounds who outshot Northwest 46-39 percent on the night.
Northwest returns to action next Tuesday, Nov. 10 for its home-opener against Faith Prep Academy.
