UTICA – Led by a near triple-double from
Sara Lytle and a career-high six threes from
Kelsey Brown, Northwest rallied from a first quarter deficit and held off a late Hinds push to come away with a hard-fought 73-67 win Thursday night.
Northwest improved to 3-0 on the season while Hinds fell to 3-1.
Hinds led 22-18 after the first quarter before Brown got hot behind the 3-point line.
Brown knocked down five first-half three-pointers, and as a team, the Lady Rangers finished with 10 on the night. Through three games, Northwest has connected on 41 from downtown, tied for 10th in the NJCAA.
Northwest outscored Hinds 20-14 in the second quarter to lead 38-36 at the break and stretched the margin to 57-49 after three quarters.
Four Lady Rangers scored in double figures, led by Brown's 21. Lytle and
Averyale Joy followed with 12 apiece and
Janesha Johnson chipped in 11. Lytle added 10 rebounds and a career-high eight blocks, just two swats shy of a rare triple-double.
Hinds was led offensively by Makhala Jackson's 17 points and a double-double from Hiliary Kemp (16 points, 10 rebounds).
Northwest will put its undefeated record on the line Monday night, playing host to Arkansas Baptist at 5 p.m.
