Rangers' Season Ends With 5-1 Semifinal Loss

RAYMOND – After scoring three goals in the first half, Pearl River added two more scores in the second half, defeating Northwest 5-1 in the semifinals of the MACJC State Tournament on Friday.

Chance Bourdene got things going for Pearl River in the 25th minute, netting his 10th goal of the season and putting the Wildcats up 1-0. Pearl River then extended the lead to 2-0 in the 30th minute, as Parker Rose also hit his 10th goal of the season.

Northwest found a bit of a spark later in the first half, as David Raymundo knocked in his seventh goal of the season off a corner kick from Bryant Young. The goal put the Rangers within striking distance, down 2-1.

From there, the Wildcats took over, as back-to-back goals from Tyler Polderman extended Pearl River's lead to 4-1 in the second half. Romar Smith delivered the parting shot for the Wildcats, scoring in the 64th minute to seal the 5-1 victory.

Both teams finished near even in the shots category, with Pearl River outshooting the Rangers 16-15 and 10-8 in shots-on-goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Williams collected five saves in the final match of his Northwest career to finish with 108.
