SENATOBIA – Playing its final regular season match against division-leading Hinds on Tuesday, Northwest took a one-goal lead in the second half before the visiting Eagles scored three unanswered to hold on for a 5-3 win in a scoring frenzy.
Hinds improved to 10-4 overall and 7-0 in the division while Northwest dropped to 11-6-1 overall and 4-4. Both teams have already wrapped up the top two spots from the north in the state playoffs.
Trailing 2-0 late in the first half,
David Raymundo cut the deficit in half in the 42nd minute off an assist from
Jaylen Harvey to give the Rangers momentum into the break.
Just 2:14 into the second half, Harvey struck again, scoring off an assist from
Bryant Young to tie the match at 2-2. Northwest then took its first lead in the 58th minute, 3-2, when
Victor Ruedas scored off a
Lance Crabtree assist.
It only took 21 seconds for Hinds to find the equalizer, with Wanner Paiz tying the match at 3-3 in the 59th minute.
Bryden Reed and Rafael Vidana added the go-ahead and final goal in the 62nd and 82nd minutes for the Eagles.
Northwest will host Jones County on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. in the opening round of the state playoffs.
