Aspriona Gilbert posted her fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds, helping Northwest to a 74-58 win over Arkansas Baptist Thursday night.
Northwest improved to 11-2 overall, while Jackson State fell to 4-14. The Lady Rangers closed out non-conference play 10-1, outscoring the opposition by 17.7 points per game.
The game got off to a slow start, as the score was tied 6-6 at 14:56.
Northwest broke free from Arkansas Baptist after
Diamond Robinson hit back-to-back 3-pointers and then went on a 12-2 run to take a 24-12 lead, reaching the largest lead of the half.
Northwest entered halftime with a 33-27 lead.
Bethany Lytle led both sides with nine points in the half, six of those coming from the free throw line as she finished 10-for-10 on the evening.
The Lady Rangers held their lead the rest of the way, highlighted by a 20-4 run over a 4:34 stretch.
Accompanying Gilbert, B. Lytle and
Alyssia King scored in double figures, finishing with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Taylor Hill scored 13 points and Emani Hamilton added 12 to lead Arkansas Baptist's roster.
Northwest shot 39 percent on the night against 33 percent shooting for the Lady Buffaloes.
Northwest will return to action at Howard Coliseum against Northeast on Monday, January 12. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
