Aspriona Gilbert scored a game-high 21 points and added seven rebounds and Northwest never trailed in an 83-62 win over Northeast Monday night.
Northwest improved to 12-2 overall and 2-1 in the north, while Northeast fell to 6-7 overall and 1-2 in division play.
Northwest grabbed the lead early with an 8-1 start before Northeast was able to tie the score at 8-8 at the 14:18-mark. Gilbert then broke the tie with a layup, off a
Kristina Mays assist, and the Lady Rangers never looked back.
Northwest entered halftime with a 41-33 lead. Gilbert led both sides with 16 points in the half.
The Lady Rangers hit their largest lead of the night at 72-49 when
Diamond Robinson made a layup with 8:03 to play.
Behind Gilbert, Mays had 11 points,
Kelsey Brown added nine on a trio of 3-pointers and
Tekevanna Young and
Bethany Lytle added eight each. Young also had a career-high seven assists against zero turnovers.
LaKeiya Lane scored a team-high 17 points for Northeast, followed by 14 off the bench from Jasmine Allen and 13 points and nine rebounds from Aushiana Ivy.
Northwest shot 51 percent on the night against 37 percent shooting for the Lady Tigers. Eight Lady Rangers contributed to a 32-18 advantage in bench points.
Northwest will return to action on Thursday, January 15 at Mississippi Delta. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. in Moorhead.
