Lady Rangers Run Win Streak to Seven at EMCC

SCOOBA – Northwest built an 18-point lead during the second half but had to hold off a late rally by East Mississippi for a 69-60 win Monday evening at Keyes T. Currie Coliseum.

Northwest improved to 15-2 overall and 5-1 in the north while EMCC dropped to 7-9 overall and 3-3 in the north.


Redshirt freshman Aspriona Gilbert led the Lady Rangers with her seventh double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Bethany Lytle contributed a career-high seven assists to accompany her 11 points and eight rebounds. Tekevanna Young also had a career-high night with six steals.

Northwest and the Lady Lions exchanged the lead five times and were tied seven times the first 11 minutes until a 12-2 run for the Lady Rangers put them up 29-21. 

EMCC battled back to within four before Diamond Robinson scored five points in the final minutes to give Northwest its largest lead of the half at 11 points. The Lady Rangers went into the half leading 41-31.


Northwest never trailed in the second half, taking its largest lead, 59-41, with 7:22 to play.

EMCC tried to mount a comeback with a 13-2 run to pull within 61-54, but Northwest finished the game on top at 69-60.


For the first time in 2015, Northwest's bench was outscored by the opponent, 22-14, but the final result was a Lady Ranger win. Northwest shot 44 percent to East Mississippi's 39 percent. 

Ki-Ki Patterson and Camry Jones led the Lady Lions' roster with 21 and 13 points.

Northwest returns to action Thursday, Jan. 29 as they host Holmes at Howard Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
