Lady Rangers Sprint Past Coahoma, 110-56

SENATOBIA – Redshirt freshman Aspriona Gilbert's 16 points led four other Northwest players in double figures as the Lady Rangers ran away from Coahoma 110-56 on Tuesday night at Howard Coliseum.

Northwest (14-2, 4-1 MACJC) shot 42 percent from the floor while holding Coahoma (2-12, 0-4 MACJC) to 30 percent. The Lady Rangers have won six straight overall and five in a row over CCC. 

Coahoma fell to Northwest quickly by the 15:16-mark, as the Lady Rangers stepped ahead 15-3. Hayley Davis helped Northwest reach its largest lead of the half, 37-14, after draining a shot from beyond the arc at 6:41 from Diamond Robinson.

Northwest led 52-34 at the half, with 32 of those points coming in the paint.


Throughout the second half the Lady Rangers continued to widen the gap from Coahoma, outscoring the Lady Tigers 58-22 thanks in large part to 40 bench points.  

Northwest forced 36 Lady Tiger turnovers for the game and collected 23 steals. The Lady Rangers also owned a lopsided 63-9 edge in bench points from eight different players.

Gilbert collected her sixth double-double of the season in only 11 minutes, adding 11 rebounds in addition to her 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Trailing Gilbert were Kristina Mays with 12 points in addition to Bethany Lytle, Jacquelyn Brooks and Davis with 10 points each. Ta'Quita Pittman had nine points and nine rebounds, both career-highs, while Tekevanna Young helped out by dishing out six assists and Morgan Burroughs snatched a game-high five steals.

Josta Totten led the Lady Tigers with 13 points. Amber Sisk and Erica Collins added 10 points each.

Northwest is back on the road Monday, Jan. 26 at East Mississippi. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in Scooba.
