Dockery Caps Late Rally as Rangers Stun Tigers

SENATOBIA – Trailing by 16 with just under 11 minutes to play, Northwest outscored Coahoma 35-15 down the stretch to steal an 84-80 win Tuesday night and snap a three-game losing skid.

Northwest improved to 8-6 overall and 2-3 in the north while Coahoma fell to 1-13 and 0-4 in division play.

Northwest scored the game's first eight points and led for all but 2 minutes in the opening half before a late Coahoma run made it a 37-36 game at intermission.

De'Sean Dockery scored 10 of his team-high 18 in the opening 20 minutes while the Tigers were paced by 16 points from Da'Quan Forrest and nine from Willie Bronson.

Coahoma caught fire out of halftime and pulled ahead 49-41 with a quick 13-4 run as Forrest and Michael West combined to score 11 straight points.

Northwest cut the lead to three, only to see Coahoma push it out to a game-high 16 on two different occasions around the 11-minute mark.

Aston Morton's layup with 10:30 to play jumpstarted a 19-6 run as Northwest fought its way back to within 71-68 with 4:37 to play. Morton scored nine of his 14 points in the second half.

Coahoma pushed its lead back out to 76-68 on a West 3-pointer and Cameron Monix layup before Dockery and Kieth Broome Jr. took over for Northwest down the stretch and willed the Rangers to a come-from-behind win.

Dockery scored eight points in the final 3:17 and hit a leaning 3-pointer as the shot clock expired to tie the game at 76-all with 2 minutes left. Sharywn McGee's two free throws then put Northwest ahead by two and the Rangers were able to salt the game away at the line.

Northwest closed the game on a 16-4 run over the final 3:56 to steal the win.

Dockery (18 points, 10 rebounds) and McGee (14 points, 10 rebounds) each posted double-doubles to lead Northwest in addition to 14 points from Morton and 12 from Broome Jr.

Coahoma was led by 22 by Forrest, 20 from Bronson and 15 by West.

Northwest owned a small edge on the glass, 43-37, and netted 16 more points at the free throw line.

Northwest travels to East Mississippi on Monday, Jan. 26 for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
