Northwest Tops Delta 82-72, Stays Unbeaten on the Road

MOORHEAD – Four Lady Rangers scored in double figures Thursday night, led by Aspriona Gilbert with a career-high 24 points, in an 82-72 road victory over Mississippi Delta.

Northwest improved to 13-2 overall and 3-1 in the north, while Mississippi Delta fell to 3-10 overall and 0-3 in division play. The Lady Rangers also stayed unbeaten on the road this season at 5-0.

In a game that featured 16 lead changes and 13 ties, 
Delta took control of the game early with their largest lead of the half, 16-7, at the 12:24-mark.

The Lady Rangers, however, followed with a 17-0 run the ensuing 7 minutes to take a 24-16 lead. Bethany Lytle hit a 3-pointer at 3:16, giving Northwest its largest lead of the half, 29-20.

Mississippi Delta finished the half on a 10-0 run to take a 30-29 halftime lead.

The game continued to go back-and-forth until Sara Lytle's layup with 5 minutes remaining put the Lady Rangers ahead for good, 68-67. Northwest then secured its fifth consecutive win w
ith a 16-5 run to finish the game.

In addition to a game-high 24 points, Gilbert picked up 10 rebounds to grab her fifth double-double of the year. B. Lytle and S. Lytle added 14 and 10 points, while Brianna Williams scored 11 points off a trio of 3-pointers.

Delta also had four players score in double figures, led by Racquel Harper with 20 points and five assists. Niya Head picked up a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds in addition to Mary Washington and Aqueshia Kimble with 11 points each.

Northwest shot 53 percent for the game against 43 percent shooting for the Lady Trojans. The Lady Rangers also owned a 46-28 advantage in points in the paint and small advantage on the boards.

orthwest will be back at Howard Coliseum on Tuesday, January 20 to take on Coahoma. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
